Seollal is the first day of the lunar Korean Calendar.

설날은 한국 음력 달력의 첫 번째 날이다.

 

it is the most important traditional Korean Holiday.

가장 중요한 전통 한국 명절이다.

 

The Korean New Year holidays typically last 3 days.

설날 연휴는 보통 3일이다.

 

It is customary for South Korean businesses to close for the lunar year holidays.

한국의 사업장은 연휴 동안 영업을 하지 않는 것이 관습이다.

The festival centers on family reunions, food and placating the ancestors through ancestral rites.

가족들을 오랜만에 보고 음식을 먹고 제사/차례를 통해 조상들을 기리는 것을 위주로 축제를 벌인다.

• Placate : 달래다, 완화시키다
• rites : ritual 의 또 다른말

          * ritual은 특정한 형식으로 함으로서 더 의미를 부여하는 의식 // rite는 어떤것을 기억하고 기리기 위한 의식

 

Some Korean people still carry on the tradition of wearing colorful traditional costumes called Hanbok.

한국이라고 하는 다채로운 전통 의상을 입는 전통을 아직도 이어가는 한국 사람들도 있다.

 

Tteokguk, also known as rice cake soup, is a traditional Koran food that is customarily eaten for the new year.

'rice cake soup'이라고도 하는 떡국은 새해 때 관습적으로 먹는 전통 한국 음식이다.

 

The dish is a soup with thinly sliced rice cakes.

이 요리는 얇게 썰린 쌀떡이 들어간 국이다.

 

According to tradition, the Korean New Year is similar to a birthday for Koreans, and having Tteokguk is part of the birthday celebration.

전통에 따르면, 한국인들에게 새해는 생일과도 같은 것이고, 떡국을 먹는 것은 그 생일을 기념하는 의미도 있다.

 

Once you finish eating you Tteokguk, you are one year order.

떡국을 다 먹고나면 나이도 한살 더 먹는 것이다.
