[영어 표현] "알다" 의 9가지 영어표현 방법

 

know, understand, find out, notice, realize, recognize, be familiar with

 

Know : 어떤 지식을 알다, Understand – 이해하다 알다,

e.g.) I understand why she did that, but I don’t agree with her decision.

e.g.) I don’t understand what it means.

Find out : 알게 되다. Cf. get to know(x), become to know (x)

e.g.) I found out about that just yesterday.

​

Figure out : 어떤 상황이나 문제에서 방법을 알게 되다, 알아내다.

e.g.) I figured out how to use it.

e.g.) I figured out how to get there.

e.g.) I figured out how to set up the alarm.

Realized : 알게 되다. (모든 과정이 머릿속에서만 발생함)

e.g.) I finally realized what the problem was.

I finally found out ~ (? x)

Notice : 변화된/특이한 점을 캐치하다 ~더라고 (외부 상황과 관련) / notify 알리다 notification 알림

e.g.) I saw my friend at school today and I noticed she had gotten a haircut

e.g.) she came out with (released) a new album, and I noticed her style had changed a little bit

e.g.) I ran into my friend on the street this morning, and I noticed she looked a little different

e.g.) I noticed you were drinking a lot of coffee today did you have trouble sleeping last night?

Recognize : 보고서 뭔지/누군지 알다

e.g.) This morning, someone said hello to me on the street but I didn’t recognize him

e.g.) Do you recognize this author? 이 책의 저자 누군지 알겠어?

e.g.) She looked very familiar, but I couldn’t recognize her.

e.g.) If you saw your boyfriend’s handwriting, would you recognize it?

Be aware of ~의 존재를 알고 있다 인식(인지)하고 있다

e.g.) I wasn’t aware of that policy.

e.g.) They were aware of the rules.

e.g.) They were not aware of the situation at the time

Be familiar with​ : 상황이나 어떤 것에 대해 잘 알다, 숙지 하고 있다.

cf. Know well (only for 사람, 가급적 안 쓰는 게 좋음)

e.g.) I am not very familiar with this topic

e.g.) Are you familiar with this kind of situation

Tell : 판단하다, (알다)

e.g.) I can’t tell what it says./ I don’ know what it says (x) 지식에 관한 거 아님

e.g.) Can you tell what this is?
